Montana coffee in brief
Montana coffee is roasted in small towns as much as in cities. The Roast Local directory listed 47 independent roasters in Montana when we pulled it in September 2026, spread from Libby and Eureka in the northwest to Miles City and Bainville in the east.
We write up 18 of them on our Montana roasters page, each one checked as operating on September 27, 2026. Five roast in Bozeman and three in Billings. Two roast in Missoula, and one more in Lolo just outside it. The rest are spread out: Helena, Great Falls, Butte, Whitefish, Victor, Philipsburg, and the Shields Valley north of Livingston. Every one is independent and roasts in Montana.

Montana's coffee regions
Gallatin and Paradise Valleys
The busiest coffee country in the state. Bozeman has more roasters on Roast Local than any other Montana town, and the valleys around it add a drum roaster in Belgrade, a roaster in Big Sky, and one each in Ennis and Big Timber. Livingston and the Shields Valley sit at the Paradise Valley end.
Bitterroot and western Montana
Missoula and the road south along Highway 93. Hunter Bay roasts in Lolo, Big Creek in Victor, and Hamilton has a coffee house in a 1904 building and a roaster that runs a hospital cafe. Florence Coffee Company took its name from the town where it began.
Flathead Valley and northwest Montana
Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, and out to Polson, Ronan, Libby and Eureka. Montana Coffee Traders anchors it from a farmhouse south of Whitefish.
Butte and southwest Montana
Florence Coffee's roastery in Butte, a pour-over bar inside an outdoor store in Anaconda, and a family roastery on West Broadway in Philipsburg whose roast names honor the ranching and farming of the Flint Creek Valley.
Great Falls and north central Montana
Morning Light has roasted in Great Falls since 1989, and Roast Local lists a roaster each in Havre, Fort Benton and Lewistown.
Billings and south central Montana
The Billings page covers the three roasters we list in the city. Outside it, Coffee Factory Roasters in Red Lodge describes itself as a small veteran-owned shop that roasts at 5,588 feet, and Mazevo of Billings opened a cafe in Laurel in September 2023.
Eastern Montana
Roast Local lists roasters in Miles City and Bainville. Kafe Utza in Miles City says on its own site that Chad and BeKa Phipps bought it from its original owner in the fall of 2021. The east does not have enough sourced roaster history for a page of its own.
