What the Last Best Coffee Club does
Last Best Coffee Club is a Montana coffee subscription. Every box brings a 12 oz bag from a different independent Montana roaster, roasted to order and shipped in the roaster's own bag. First bag free, you pay $7.99 shipping. Then $16.99 a bag, every 2 or 4 weeks, and you can skip, pause or cancel online. Gifts of 3, 6 or 12 boxes cost $66.99, $134.99 or $269.99 with shipping included.

Why Montana
Because the roasters are here, and they are far apart. The Roast Local directory lists 47 independent roasters in Montana (September 2026). Montana Coffee Traders has roasted in a farmhouse south of Whitefish since 1981. Morning Light has roasted in Great Falls since 1989. Big Creek started in a rebuilt garage and now roasts in Victor. Philipsburg Coffee Roasters works in 10 pound batches on West Broadway, and RamsHead is a family roasting in the Shields Valley north of Livingston.
A roaster in Whitefish and one in Billings are a long day's drive apart. The club brings roasters from across the state to one kitchen, a box at a time.
It also keeps the money here. A bag bought from a Montana roaster pays a Montana roastery and the people who work there, and those roasteries only stay open if Montanans keep buying. That is the argument on our support local page, and it is the reason for everything else on this site.
The name
It comes from the state's nickname, the Last Best Place. We shortened it and put it on a coffee club.
Who picks the coffee
Joe McRose picks the club's coffees and writes the roaster pages on this site. Each page is built from the roaster's own public pages and other public sources, dated with the day it was checked, and sent to the roaster to check once we have a contact. How that works in full is on the sourcing page.
A roaster on this site is listed because we like its coffee. A listing does not mean the roaster is part of the club.
