Their story
Joel and Peggy Gargaro moved from California to Montana, fell for the place, and opened Rock Creek Coffee Roasters in 2004. They roast in small batches inside the shop so the coffee is sold soon after roasting, and they say they buy from sustainable, high quality suppliers around the world. The company holds Made in Montana certification and won a Golden Bean silver medal.
It has made joint products with other local businesses, such as coffee soaps. Its lineup leans on medium roasts from Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil, with a Grade 1 Sumatra and a French roast on the darker side, and it runs coffee clubs for home delivery. Its Coffee Club lets subscribers pick a roast, whole bean or ground, bag size and delivery schedule, then skip, reschedule or cancel at any time.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include House Blend (medium), Espresso Blend (medium) and Mike's French Roast (dark). Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Santa Elena, Colombia Santa Maria, Mexico Dana Montana, organic Chiapas, Brazil Porta Rossa and Sumatra Mandheling Grade 1.
