Morning Light Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Great Falls, founded in 1988. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Morning Light started roasting in Helena in 1988. In 1989 it opened a warehouse roasting plant and coffee house in Great Falls, and from 1990 it spread specialty coffee to towns across Montana. It calls itself one of the largest wholesale and retail specialty coffee businesses in Montana, roasting hundreds of pounds a week in Great Falls and serving hundreds of businesses around the Northwest each week.
Besides roasting, the company consults for coffee businesses, distributes and services espresso and brewing equipment, supplies offices, builds coffee carts and distributes syrups. Its Charlie Russell Roast is sold at Sam's Club. Its wholesale program serves Montana and neighboring states, supplying places from restaurants, bars and casinos to medical facilities and car dealerships, and new accounts get a free consultation and installation.
The consulting side covers roasting, cupping, blending, packaging, barista training, menu planning and equipment choice, and the company sells Nuova Simonelli espresso machines.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Big Sky Blend (light, South American and African), Big Stack Blend (medium), Black Bison Blend (dark, South American and Indonesian) and Charlie Russell Roast. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
