Florence Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Butte, founded in 2003. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Florence Coffee Company started in 2003 in Florence, Montana. Two brothers, Nathan and Jeff, founded it with their wives Rachel and Alisha. The business began as a single small coffee stand that Rachel ran herself. Alisha later managed the family's first shop in Helena. From that one stand the family grew the company to more than 20 coffee shops across western Montana. Its locations page lists 23 shops, from Bigfork and Whitefish in the north to Stevensville, Hamilton and Corvallis in the Bitterroot, plus Missoula, Helena, Butte and Great Falls.
The family describes itself as Montana family run for more than 20 years, with drive-thru shops across western Montana and coffee roasted fresh and delivered to its wholesale customers every week. Dave Stewart of Vista Clara Coffee mentored the family and was their original coffee supplier. As he retires, he has been handing his roasting methods on to the Florence team. All of the company's coffee has been roasted in Butte since 2023.
The company says it buys beans directly from growing countries and farmers, with a focus on shade grown, sustainable farming, and that only a small top share of the beans it sees make the cut.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include FloCo Signature Blend (medium, Indonesia with Central and South America, the family's most popular), FloCo Miner's Blend (dark, named for Butte) and Montana Reserve. Single origins on the list when we checked: FloCo Costa Rican (Santa Elena Estate, Tarrazu) and Sumatra. Serves espresso drinks at every shop and supplies espresso, drip and cold brew coffee to wholesale accounts. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
