Rowan Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Bozeman. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Scott Isely owns the company and roasts the coffee, with Kathryn Isely handling administration. Scott brings more than 14 years of coffee industry work to the business, which sells to home drinkers as well as cafes and offices. The name comes from the rowan tree, which the company presents as a symbol of thriving in unusual places.
The company's stated motto is "Excellent Coffee, Every Day," and its About page says it keeps adjusting its approach as the coffee trade changes. Its espresso coffee, Zemil, is roasted as separate components and then blended from Colombian, Guatemalan and Honduran lots. The shop suggests it for drip as well. A Roaster's Choice option sends a different current coffee with each order, and subscriptions can be set to every two weeks, every three weeks or monthly.
The Tanzania Anaerobic lot comes from the Iloma cooperative, a farmer group formed in 2011 that began producing natural process coffee in 2020.

Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Guji, Guatemala Natural Blue Ayarza, Kenya Peaberry, Peru Natural Cerro Blanco, Tanzania AA and Tanzania Anaerobic.
