Fieldheads Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Kalispell. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Fieldheads roasts specialty coffee in small batches in Montana, covering espresso, house blends and limited single origins. It also supplies other small businesses and says it aims to keep high quality coffee at fair prices. The company calls Snowed In its most popular coffee. It is a Guatemalan lot roasted two ways, lighter and medium, then combined, and it also comes in compostable Keurig-style pods.
Its Rwandan coffee comes from the Sholi Cooperative, linked to the Kundwa Women's Association, where 241 of the 619 members are women. Bags are sold in 12 ounce and 5 pound sizes and can be ground for French press, drip, cold brew, espresso or Turkish coffee. The roaster also resells the burlap sacks its green coffee arrives in, suggesting them for garden use or craft projects.
What they roast
House blends include Alpenglow Ethiopian Blend, Wild Mile Blend, Swiftcurrent Organic Indonesian Blend, Cowboy Coffee, Wild Horse Dark Roast and 406 Fair Trade Organic. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Santa Elena Natural, Rwanda Sholi, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia Natural Process and Snowed In Guatemala Double Roast. Espresso: Rock Hop, Spotted Bear, Fieldheads Signature, Summit Premium and European espresso blends. Decaf: Decaf Wild Mile Blend; Decaf Signature Espresso. One of its coffees is called 406, a nod to the area code that covers all of Montana. Fieldheads roasts the coffee sold under the Mountain Mudd name for that Billings business, and buyers can order those bags through its store.
