Crazy Mountain Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Big Timber, founded in 2021. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Dru Hayes started the company in 2021 and does the roasting herself. She grew up in the Shields Valley below the Crazy Mountains. She learned to roast from her stepdad and his brothers, who together have more than a century in the coffee trade, then came home to open her own roastery. A coffee and espresso bar was later added at the roastery, which sits in the well-known Frosty Freez building in Big Timber.
The company describes itself as woman owned. Its green coffee comes from Fair Trade sources, women producers and farms it considers sustainable, roasted in small batches. Wholesale customers range from coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants to grocers, banks and offices. Minimums are low, custom house blends are possible, and it can help set up commercial brewing gear.
What they roast
House blends include Absaroka Sunrise, Alpenglow Blend, Black Diamond Blend, Crazy Mtn Cold Brew Blend, Crazy Mountain 100 Trailhead Blend, Up the Boulder and French Roast. Single origins on the list when we checked: Brazil Cerrado Ipe Amarelo, Brazil Minas honey process, Colombia Excelso, Ethiopia Sidamo, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Aricha, Guatemala Ave De Paraiso, Honduras Las Granadillas and Sumatra Lintong. Espresso: Ibex Espresso Blend. Decaf: Decaf Colombia Excelso. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Why buying from Crazy Mountain Coffee Roasters matters here
The company takes its name from the Crazy Mountains, the range Dru grew up beside in southwest Montana. One photo on its site shows Dru selling at the Livingston Farmers Market. The bar at the roastery pours rotating single origins, blends and espresso drinks, all roasted on site, and Dru says she opened it to bring good coffee to Sweet Grass County.
Every bag bought from a Big Timber roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Montana, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
