Beacon Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Bozeman. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The current owners, a couple who both grew up in the area, bought the shop in 2020 and renamed it. It had been called International Coffee Traders. Both owners knew the little shop near campus from their own student days at Montana State University. The new name reflects a hope that the shop can be a bright, friendly spot for the community.
A partner farms page profiles several of its sources, among them Finca Colomba on the slopes of El Salvador's Santa Ana Volcano, planted with Bourbon trees by the same family since 1949. Another profile covers Rwanda's Muhororo washing station, opened in 2014 by the sons of grower Celestin Rumenerangabo, whose family rebuilt its coffee business after the 1994 genocide. Its coffee education page walks customers through French press, moka pot, V60, AeroPress and espresso recipes, the last one using the Triple Jack blend.

House blends include Blue Beacon Blend and Costa Rica Hacienda La Minita Estate Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Brazil Cerrado Mineiro, Honduras Singuatepeque Cerro Azul, Peru Finca Churupampa, El Salvador Finca Colomba, Ethiopia Werka Nensebo, Guatemala Huehuetenango ASODIETT, Rwanda Muhororo, Sumatra Sidikalang Wahana Estate, Kenya Kaganda, Colombia Finca Monteblanco Anaerobic and Nicaragua La Bastilla. Why buying from Beacon Coffee Roasters matters here
Beacon roasts fair trade beans in small batches in Bozeman and sells them from a shop tucked beside the university. The owners say they are raising their two children in the same area where they both grew up, and they want the shop to be a cheerful stop for anyone who comes in.
