Zaxan Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Hamilton, founded in 2003. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Founder Stacy first worked as a barista near Yosemite in the 1990s. She moved to western Montana in 2002 and opened a coffee house and roasting business. The company dates itself to 2003, though Stacy's small-batch roasting began back in 1992. Besides the hospital cafe, Zaxan sells at a farmers market and runs a mobile coffee trailer.
Stacy says she sat through many roasting seminars and classes after arriving in Montana and worked out her own roasting process to suit each bean. One photo on the About page shows her inside a Costa Rican coffee silo. Wholesale accounts include coffee shops, caterers and grocery stores, and Zaxan trains their staff on pulling shots, grinding and keeping espresso machines in shape.

Roast levels run Light Roast, Medium Roast and Dark Roast. A decaf is on the list. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Why buying from Zaxan Coffee Roasters matters here
Zaxan has served the Bitterroot Valley for more than 20 years and runs the cafe in the local hospital. From May through October the roaster runs a booth every Saturday morning at the Hamilton Farmers Market, selling espresso drinks, smoothies and bags to take home. Its coffee trailer, which the company calls the Mobile Caffeination Unit, can be booked for festivals and private parties around the valley. Daly Brew sits near the main lobby of the Hamilton hospital and serves breakfast sandwiches, snacks and locally baked treats along with the house coffee.
Every bag bought from a Hamilton roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Montana, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
