Rocky Mountain Roasting is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Belgrade, founded in 1992. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The Belgrade roastery has sold drum-roasted specialty coffee since 1992. Dakota and Shailyne Killgore bought the company recently. They say they plan to keep its long-standing habits while adding new ideas. Its product notes say the beans are slow roasted in an old-fashioned drum machine, a slower method the company calls labor intensive and credits for the flavor.
The Yellowstone Blend, a dark roast with some Indonesian coffee in it, has been on the menu since the doors opened in 1992. The house decaf, called Sacajawea, blends Colombian and Sumatran beans roasted dark. The straight Colombian decaf is water processed before roasting.

House blends include Big Sky Blend, Yellowstone Blend, Dry Fly Blend, Trail Mud Blend, Prairie Smoke Blend, Old Faithful Blend, Jim Bridger Blend, Big Horn Blend and Beartooth Blend. Many of its blends carry Montana and Yellowstone names, such as Beartooth, Big Horn, Old Faithful and Jim Bridger. Visit Montana's press room included the roaster in a winter road trip list of Montana coffee stops, noting that it changed hands but stays closely tied to Belgrade. The Dry Fly Blend was created with anglers in mind and mixes Guatemalan, Kenyan and Sumatran coffees.
