Their story
Montana Maid got its start selling at a weekend farmers market and has grown into a regional roaster. It is family owned. Beans are roasted on a hot-air system that keeps them moving so they never sit against hot metal. The company's slogan is "The Maid is never bitter!" The company compares its fluid-bed machine to a popcorn popper, and says keeping the beans off hot metal avoids the scorching it links to drum roasting.
The Blackfoot River Blend is a medium roast of Mexican beans that the roaster recommends for pour over brewing. For a darker cup, the Gallatin River Blend uses Colombian beans taken to a dark roast with a full body. The lightest of the four, the Smith River Blend, is built mainly on beans from Costa Rica.
