Galaxy Roasting is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in East Helena. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Roasting began in 2001, when the family wanted better control over the coffee poured at The Bagel Company, a long-running Helena spot. That goal took them to the Coffee Training Institute in San Francisco to study green coffee buying, roasting and cupping. Today the family-owned roaster sells 12 ounce, 2 pound and 5 pound bags to households and businesses, with delivery around Helena and shipping elsewhere.
The very dark Galaxy 90/10 Blend was first roasted for evening meals at On Broadway, a Helena restaurant, so it would hold up next to garlic and Italian flavors. Its Sumatra is a single origin taken to a full city roast. Coffees come as whole beans, in 13 grind settings from espresso fine to cold brew coarse, or as pods.

Why buying from Galaxy Roasting matters here
Through its Galaxy Give-back program the roaster helps local organizations raise money by selling its coffee. Under Galaxy Give-back, a group selling its coffee keeps 40 percent of the price of each 12 ounce bag. Past partners include the YWCA, Montana veterans and Helena area public schools. Businesses in the Helena area can get delivery on larger orders, and customers can also collect orders in person at the East Helena location.
