Moon Eyes Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Montana: an independent roaster based in Fort Benton, founded in 2022. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Jake Berger and Maren Engen opened the business in Fort Benton in 2022. The name comes from their cat, Matt, and his large eyes. For years a shop by that name was only a running joke between them. Jake, who already knew roasting, makes the syrups and baked goods in house, and customers can buy fresh beans with their latte.
Most of the menu is single origin rather than blends. Two Brazilian roasts go by Solar Eclipse and Black Hole Sun, and a washed Costa Rican medium roast is sold as Moon Eyes Daydream. Decaf drinkers get Lunar Eclipse, a decaffeinated Brazilian coffee at a medium roast. The shop also sells Hario V60 drippers and filters for brewing at home.

House blends include Open Water and Alldae. Single origins on the list when we checked: Solar Eclipse (Brazil, medium), Black Hole Sun (Brazil, dark), Moon Eyes Daydream (Costa Rica, washed, medium), Meagher's Attacks! (Ethiopia, medium light) and Rescue roast! (Ethiopia, medium dark). Decaf: Lunar Eclipse (Brazil, decaf, medium).
